Medieval Spain Grade Level:
After the Moors conquered Spain, the people united to try to force them out. Legends tell of a soldier named Roland who fought heroically in Charlemagne's army and was killed when the army was ambushed by the Moors. He is remembered in songs and stories. Later in history, French soldiers helped the Spanish fight against the Almohads. They didn't succeed until the Almohads had been weakened by rebellions and internal wars. In the 13th century, the Spanish army was able to regain control of most of Spain.
